History Matters: NWLH essay competition 2018

essay competition for young historians

Do you work with young people?

The North West Labour History Society was formed in 1973 to promote and popularise the knowledge and study of all aspects of working class history in the north west of England. It is a Society of ordinary people. It is not an academic group nor it is it affiliated to any University, College or other association. It has been publishing an annual journal for over 40 years.

To encourage and develop the next generation of historians, in 2018 we are launching an essay competition for young historians (19 and under) with a £100 prize and publication in the NWLH journal.

The aims are to discover and celebrate the stories and histories of ordinary men and women from the north west who have striven to make the world a better place, and to encourage young people to write about and be inspired by their own history.

If you think this opportunity would be good for you or the young people in your organisation, we would be interested to hear from you:
